Hi, I’m Lisa Goldsworthy with ACE Carpet andUpholstery Care in Denver, Colorado and in this segment I will talk about a blood spillon your carpet.

Sometimes we have some accidents in our homes, unfortunately, and this is onevery common one so let’s discuss how to tackle this particular one.

So in this case we havejust a little bit of a blood spill on this particular carpet so ideally you want to getthat right when it happens if you can.

And so if that’s the case, even if you find it,the first thing is you want to take a white towel, a towel without any dyes on it andjust blot, blot the area and see if you get any transfer because maybe, you may not knowwhen it happened or any of that.

And this particular case, there’s zero transfer onthis so, blood is a protein and so therefore we would treat it accordingly but for homebased solution, let’s try the most simple method.

We always want to try the least aggressivemethod because it will ultimately help if you do have to go with a carpet cleaning professional,it ultimately will help that professional’s results in your home.

So what I have hereis some ice cold water, white towel, and just get that towel a little damp.

Now the reasonwhy I go with ice cold water is because hot water can often set a stain so it’s just bestto go with the cold, which is kind of strange because we’re always thinking the hot is thebest but definitely stick with that cold.

And make sure your towel’s not too wet.

Let’sgo ahead and blot the area and see if we get any transfer at all and fortunately, I amgetting some right there, you can see that.

So I’m going to continue blotting and anothermotion you can take with it would be go just very gently this way and that way in thatmotion, OK? And continue doing this and we are finding that we’re getting some very niceresults by getting that stain up.

One other option would be to use a spotter bottle thathas the same PH as water which is a PH of 7, and blot, OK? And basically what you’redoing is you’re leaving no soapy residue behind and it is virtually gone.

Take a look.

Sowe used two very simple methods.

Mother Nature’s cold water, a white towel and a spotter thathas the same PH as water which is a PH of 7.

Now I would highly recommend, to find sucha spotter that definitely won’t leave a soapy residue, to check out the Carpet and Rug Institutewebsite.

You’ll find them on line.

They will have a list of safe products that you canuse on your carpet, that will have the same PH as water.

That’s what I would always recommend, looking for that.

Two other home remedies that you would also want to keep in mind witha protein based spill such as blood, would be ammonia in a very, very small amount.

Andagain, use sparingly, you can always add more but start with the least aggressive.

And theother option would be white vinegar that you could also use with a protein type of spillsuch as blood.

So those are some other options for you.
